Zumbador proves that quality tequila can be delivered at an affordable price. Roberto López Anaya crafts his first tequila at Destilería El Sabino (NOM 1643) in the Highlands of Jesús María, where he is the master distiller, distillery owner, and brand owner.
Roberto and the López family represent four generations of agave growers overseeing 1,000 acres of fertile land. He’s also the nephew of tequila luminaries Carlos and Felipe Camarena.
You might think tequila runs in Roberto’s blood, but it all starts with the agave fields. With the brand able to control production from field to bottle, they maintain quality at an amazing price.
Aroma: Sweet agave, loads of citrus, vegetal, petrichor, floral, and anise.
Flavor: Agave, black pepper, mineral-rich, earthy, citrus, vegetal, and anise.
Finish: Thin mouthfeel and fairly dry, with a vegetal and peppery ending; the finish doesn’t quite deliver as strongly as the aroma and flavor, but it’s not too far behind.
At about $25, Zumbador Blanco may be the best value in tequila right now. It simply doesn’t sacrifice quality or taste to deliver a bargain. I don’t know how long they can keep this up, but don’t hesitate if you come across anything in the Zumbador lineup!
