We take tequila evaluation seriously, which is why we have our team of reviewers.
Our ground rules for tequila reviews:
First, The Tequila Report is not the most comprehensive source of consumer tequila reviews. For that, you’ll want to dive into the Agave Matchmaker database.
However, we do publish 15-25 new reviews on The Tequila Report each month. Of these, 12-14 are featured in the email edition, which arrives in your inbox every other Tuesday.
If you’re not receiving The Tequila Report in your email, go here to subscribe (FREE).
Occasionally, members of our review team work independently on behalf of tequila brands to assist with marketing, events, and other duties. As of January 1, 2026, our reviewers do not review any tequila brands with which they have a commercial relationship. Furthermore, reviewers are not paid by brands to conduct reviews. They do receive a small stipend from this publication to help cover some of the time they spend on reviews.
As you might imagine, brands do send complimentary review sample bottles to The Tequila Report for consideration. Brands interested in a possible review should complete this form. And, as you probably understand, The Tequila Report does have tequila brand partners. We are very proud of them. After all, we hand-picked them. Find all our partners here.
Our scoring scale for tequila reviews:
We use a typical 1-100 point scale for our reviews and scores. Is that the best approach? Maybe not, but it’s the widely accepted numerical scale for wine, beer, and spirits reviews, so we adhere to that method.

How our tequila review scores are calculated:
Aroma 1-30 points
Flavor 1-45 points
Finish 1-15 points
Character 1-10 points
Character in our parlance means uniqueness, memorability, a particularly excellent attribute, and overall vibes.
Note that unlike other sources of reviews, we do not take price into consideration when scoring tequilas. This is because the availability and pricing of tequila can vary widely based on geography. Additionally, concepts like affordability and value are, by definition, situational and circumstantial.
Our responsibility is to tell you how good the tequila is and to provide you with a link to buy it, usually with a discount. You can then decide whether it’s worth it to do so.
Remember, Tequila Report Insiders save 10% on tequila purchases from three major online retailers.
What the score represents:
Here is what a score of 75, 84, or 96 means at The Tequila Report.
96-100 - an all-time fave
91-95 - excellent and worth seeking out
86-90 - very good and worth a repeat visit
81-85 - good, especially as a mixer
76-80 - okay, but might seek other options
71-75 - not a fan
66-70 - pretty much a hard pass
56-65 - hope to never drink it again
4-55 - creates profound sadness
Thanks so much for looking at our reviews. We’ll keep drinking if you continue reading!
