Código 1530 is a brand I’m seeing more and more on the back bar.
Código lays its añejo down for 18 months, six months longer than the minimum required for the añejo category.
Bringing the worlds of wine and tequila together, Código uses Napa Valley red wine barrels made from French oak to age its añejo. The barrels lend dark fruit depth and character to the tequila.
Código has also helped debunk the myth that “if it’s endorsed by a celebrity, it’s bad tequila.”
Backed by country music legend George Strait, Código has clearly done its homework, building and marketing the brand while still delivering a quality product.
Nose: Pepper, caramel, vanilla, and butterscotch.
Taste: Vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, charred banana, and dark fruit.
Finish: A short finish with notes of white pepper and vanilla.
This añejo falls into the “smooth” category. It’s not overly complex on the mid-palate or finish, but it’s a solid pour. Código has done a good job balancing celebrity influence with quality tequila.
