Owner and CEO Juan Manuel Trujillo came from a family of agave growers; in fact, Juan Manuel’s father Manuel was an agave farmer for almost 60 years.
In 2018, a tequila was made to celebrate his 50th anniversary as an agave grower: Trujillo 10 Años.
From there, people started telling the family to tell more of their story through tequila. That’s what led them to create their own brand: Trujillo.
From this point forward, Trujillo marketed several tequilas as a growing tequila brand. Their initial offering was actually a first in the Mexican market: a cristalino blanco, Trujillo Crystal. This was then followed by Trujillo Cuarenta and Trujillo Tahona. Then, a few years down the line, came Trujillo Carbon.
In 2025, Trujillo launched their first-ever high-proof tequila, Manifiesto 56, named for the family’s 56 years in the agave farming business.
Manifiesto 56 is made with eight-year-old agaves from a single ranch, Rancho El Cinco. The single-estate agave is cooked for 36 hours in brick ovens, tahona-crushed, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks for 11 days, and double-distilled in copper pot stills.
If any of you know me, you know I am going to love this tequila! So, let’s get into it:
The nose is very complex, with cooked agave, honey, cinnamon, then earthy vegetation and herbal tones. Finally, you get notes of apricots and citrus, even a floral note at the end.
Ok, it’s time to taste this beauty.
On my palate, I get cooked agave and honey with notes of pepper, citrus, apricot, mint, herbal, vegetal, and floral—to this point, very similar to the aromas. But then the cinnamon kicks in!
There is a nice, long finish with pleasant, lingering notes of pepper and honey.
Delicious.
