TCapri Blanco

TCapri tequila begins with a story that extends well beyond the bottle.

Founder Tiffany Capri Hainesworth’s path into the tequila industry followed a life-changing experience: after surviving a traumatic brain injury, she began reevaluating what mattered most to her and what she wanted the next chapter of her life to look like.

That period of reflection eventually brought her to Jalisco, Mexico, where a passion for food and creating memorable experiences evolved into something much larger—a desire to build a tequila brand of her own.

In 2019, Hainesworth became the first Black woman to solely own a tequila brand, stepping into an industry where both Black ownership and female leadership have historically been underrepresented.

Her vision for TCapri is centered on craftsmanship, authenticity, and an emphasis on what goes into the bottle.

The brand produces blanco, reposado, and añejo expressions and states that its tequila is made from just three ingredients: Blue Weber agave, volcanic-filtered well water, and yeast, all sourced from the distillery’s estate. The expressions are also kosher.

For Hainesworth, TCapri represents more than entering the tequila category; it is the result of turning a deeply personal reassessment of life into something tangible while carving out space in an industry where she was not traditionally represented.

This blanco has what I call a dark nose, but there are elements of clean, bright aromas that give it a pleasant balance. Dominant aromas include agave, olive, brine, and freshly cut lemon. Supporting aromas include roasted plantain, basil, baled hay, red apple, fruit salad, 7Up, an earthy funkiness, and white pepper.

The taste has a bit more funk than the nose, but again, it is a balance of dark notes and clean, fresh notes. A nice punch of agave, orange zest, bell pepper, and anise is immediately present. Then come notes of malolactic funk, mushroom, licorice, cantaloupe, peat, mint, white pepper, and damp forest wood.

This blanco has a slightly watery mouthfeel and a medium-length finish, with lingering notes of cinnamon, brine, green apple peel, and minerals.

Overall, TCapri Blanco has a nice balance but leans more toward funkier, darker notes. I have to say that I really enjoyed the dark, dank notes mixed with the brighter, fresher ones; it is just a fun experience.

If you want a tequila with its own personality, one that is a bit different and offers a good spectrum of notes, this may be for you.
