Against all odds, Monica Sanita and Alex Lacroix decided to jump into the tequila game with only $9,000 and a credit card. They have come a long way in the past ten years with Siempre Tequila, now an award-winning, international brand.

With stops at NOM 1137 and 1438, in 2022 they finally landed at the famed Vivanco distillery (NOM 1414), working with master distiller Sergio Cruz.

One day, the steam boiler goes down at the distillery and takes weeks to repair. Meanwhile, Siempre has two separate batches fermenting in tanks, one with fibers and one without. The yeast die, evolve, and rest over a three-week “afterlife.” Master distiller Sergio Cruz decides to blend these two batches, creating a special Muerto blanco tequila.

Aromas: Raw agave, spice, a little funk, light pepper, and citrus notes

Flavors: Rich and complex flavors of sweet cooked agave, a little briny, anise, light pepper and spice (jalapeño or chili pepper spice). Intense notes of fresh citrus zest, with hint of earthy notes.

Finish: Long, long finish, evolves over time, full-bodied and creamy. The high-proof is there, but not overpowering. I am left with a very pleasing aftertaste of fresh cooked agave.

This is an awesome high-proof blanco. Different from others, with a DNA of a unique fermentation blend most likely never reproduced. This is a real banger, with only 4,500 bottles, though I still see some on shelves. Go grab one or two if you find this amazing blanco. Salud!
