Tequila Providencia Blanco comes out of NOM 1465, a three-generation, family-owned operation focused on single-estate, small-batch production. They are located in Arandas, in The Highlands of Jalisco.
The Providencia brand itself was co-founded by MLB start Mookie Betts and entrepreneur Rodd Rafieha.
On the nose, I’m getting a nice sweetness right away. It’s cooked agave up front, a little spice, some citrus, and just a touch of floral and little vegetal.
On the palate, big cooked agave hits first, then those floral notes really open up more than the nose lets on. There’s a clean sweetness throughout.
The finish brings a nice vegetal heat that builds as it sits. I’m also picking up some anise and a little lime zest on the back end.
I let the bottle open up a while and then came back to it to find some different notes. The change I picked up was in the finish. I got a hint of chocolate and a savory vegetal note.
This tequila is not overly complex, but it’s definitely not a one-note blanco, either. This is a good sipper and great in a cocktail.
