Master Distiller David Rodriguez now leads production, having succeeded his mentor — the legendary Francisco Alcaraz. Patrón was founded in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley, originally produced at Siete Leguas, one of Mexico's oldest distilleries. In 2002, the brand built Hacienda Patrón, its own distillery. In 2018, Bacardi acquired the company.
Patrón still leans into old-school production: multiple two-ton Tahona wheels crush the cooked agaves, paired with their signature close shave of the piñas. That combination is what gives Patrón its unmistakable flavor signature.
Patrón is, more than any other brand, the reason tequila climbed from humble local spirit to top-shelf global category — now sold in more than 100 countries. Patrón Silver 100 is a high-proof, 100% Tahona-milled Blanco bottled at 50% ABV and distilled to proof, meaning no water is added after distillation. The result preserves the agave's natural character and intensity.
It belongs in premium cocktails and stands up as a sipper — bolder and more concentrated than the standard 80-proof, and additive-free.
Aroma: Cooked agave, citrus, light minerality, herbal and earthy notes.
Palate: Give it a moment to open. Then: bright sweet cooked agave layered with a slight salinity, light pepper, lemon citrus, and a creamy mouthfeel that softens the proof. The alcohol never overpowers.
Finish: Medium to long, agave-forward, and lingering.
This isn't Patrón Roca dressed up in a new bottle. The proof is higher, the price is lower, and the intent is obvious: Patrón wants Silver 100 behind every serious bar, at home in high-end cocktails and approachable enough to sip neat.
Well done, Patrón.
