Tequila Partida Roble Fino Añejo is one of the more unique barrel-aged tequilas available on the market, pushing beyond the category’s typical whiskey-barrel approach by incorporating sherry-seasoned single malt Scotch casks into the process.

Produced by Jose Valdez at Autentica Tequilera (NOM 1502), this tequila begins as Partida’s standard añejo aged for 18 months in ex-bourbon barrels. It then spends an additional five months finishing in ex-single malt, sherry-seasoned casks, bringing the total aging to nearly two years.

Bottled at 45% ABV, the extra proof helps carry the depth and richness created by the layered barrel influence.

Nose: Butterscotch, oak, vanilla, baking spices, dried fruit, light toffee, with a bit of faint agave still coming through.

Taste: Honey, oak, cherry, baking spices reminiscent of clove and nutmeg, hazelnut, and subtle herbal notes.

Finish: A long-lasting finish of chocolate, dried fruit, nuts, and lingering baking spice.

This is a delicious añejo with a genuinely unique barrel-aging approach. The influence from the sherry-seasoned single malt casks gives it a profile that stands apart from the whiskey-barrel-heavy direction most of the category tends to follow.

The price may feel high, but when you factor in the nearly two years of aging across two different cask types alongside the elevated 45% ABV, there’s real value here. More importantly, it offers something distinctly different in a crowded añejo market.
