Most tequila brands use agave harvested from multiple areas. Lágrimas del Valle takes another path—one field at a time.
Single-field production is at the heart of Lágrimas. Each release begins with agaves from one specific field that become a snapshot of flavor in time.
Terroir, or the flavor of the earth, is one of the defining characteristics of a chosen field. After harvest, that exact expression can never be repeated. Differences in weather, soil, and rainfall mean that agave grown miles apart can experience very different conditions and, consequently, develop different flavors.
Rather than blending agave from different fields, Lágrimas sends agave from a single field into production. Each batch provides a consistent expression and ultimately becomes a celebration of a unique flavor that can happen only once.
This attention to terroir landed Lágrimas del Valle fourth in the latest ranking of The Tequila Report’s Top 150 Brands.
For the 2025 vintage, that field is La Mesa del Charco, near El Arenal in the Tequila Valley.
It is the sixth field explored by Lágrimas, but this one brings the idea particularly close to home. La Mesa del Charco is owned and operated by the Rosales family, the same family behind Cascahuín (NOM 1123), where Lágrimas is produced.
The agaves harvested there reached an impressive average of 38° Brix, an indication of their sugar content and maturity. This provided exceptional raw material for fourth-generation distiller Salvador “Chava” Rosales Trejo and the Cascahuín team to turn into tequila.
From there, restraint becomes critical as they work to preserve the taste of the field.
To allow the reposado to retain as much of its single-field character as possible, it spends just three months in third- and fourth-fill ex-bourbon barrels. Using well-seasoned, depleted barrels for a relatively short maturation limits the oak’s influence and helps preserve that distinct single-field flavor.
Nose: sweet cooked agave / earth / vanilla / caramel / butterscotch / baked apple / hint of plum / hint of lime / lavender / baking spices / molasses / honey
Taste: sweet cooked agave / vanilla / caramel / pepper / butterscotch / apple cobbler – baked apple / lime / hint of anise / peppermint / baking spices / honey / chocolate / molasses / hazelnut / minerals
Finish: heavy viscosity coats the palate exceptionally well / agave, butterscotch, caramel, and baked apple blend with baking spices to create a dessert-level experience on the mid-palate (leaning into apple cobbler!) / pepper and peppermint round out the finish, which lingers because of the heavy viscosity
I have really enjoyed the previous five single-field expressions from Lágrimas, and La Mesa del Charco is yet another delicious way to enjoy its offerings. I highly recommend this expression and others from Lágrimas.
