KOKORO Spirits founder Howard Cao was inspired by the Japanese concept of heart, mind, and spirit when forming his brand. He brings together Mexican craftsmanship with a philosophy of harmony.
From the unique, beautiful bottle design to the traditional methods used to produce this blanco, every step is intentional. KOKORO Plata is a fine example of that craftsmanship.
This time, I’m tasting Lote 2 of this blanco. To understand the difference between Lote 1 and Lote 2, we need to look at terroir: the natural environment where the agave was harvested. This speaks to “a sense of place” and the resulting flavor profile.
Lote 1 was a blend of 90% Highland and 10% Valley agave. Lote 2 is made with 100% Highland agave, giving it a slightly different flavor profile.
Aromas: Cooked agave, anise, light pepper, lemon citrus, and floral notes.
Flavors: This is a very approachable blanco with a great mouthfeel, sweet tropical notes of lemon and pineapple, and light pepper, followed by floral notes, with nice herbal and mineral notes rounding out the palate.
Finish: A long, lingering finish with a nice balance of spice and sweet cooked agave.
This bottle is beautiful, and the juice inside is delicious, making it a great gift for any tequila lover. KOKORO Plata should be sipped and enjoyed neat, but it will also enhance any cocktail.
