Herradura Silver (Blanco) is produced at Brown-Forman Tequila Mexico (NOM 1119)—also known as Casa Herradura—in Amatitán, Jalisco, a town many consider the birthplace of tequila.

Herradura Silver is an 80-proof tequila made from 100% Blue Weber agave that is rested for 45 days in charred American white oak barrels.

It’s unusual for a blanco to be rested in barrels, as the vast majority are unaged. A blanco may rest in oak for up to two months before it must be classified as reposado.

The aromas have a pleasant intensity, carrying bright lemon and lime notes alongside vegetal hints of lemongrass and celery. Dry notes from the 45 days spent in charred American white oak barrels provide a contrasting backbone. Overall, the nose is citrus-forward, with a dry, lightly woody structure.

The flavors are also bright. There’s green agave, lime zest, white pepper, and a vegetal note of sage, with hints of pine and earth and a slightly woodsy flavor. There’s also some alcohol astringency.

The flavors carry into the short finish. There’s a lingering bitterness of pine and eucalyptus, with dry white pepper.

Herradura has wide distribution in the United States and Mexico. It is well known, and its history dates to 1870. This blanco can work well in cocktails if the price is right.
