Is Flecha Azul just another celebrity brand tequila?
Co-founded in 2016 by Mexican PGA golfer Abraham Ancer and entrepreneur Aron Marquez, celebrities in their own right, the brand finally launched in 2020. But Flecha Azul gained major notoriety in 2022 when actor Mark Wahlberg became a principal investor.
Flecha Azul, which translates to Blue Arrow, is a sign of their perseverance, moving forward, with a nod to the quality of the Blue Weber agave used.
Their core lineup consists of a blanco, reposado, añejo, extra añejo, and cristalino.
Flecha Azul Reposado is aged for six months in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels.
Aromas: Barrel and baking spice notes on the nose, light sweetness, some faint cooked agave.
Flavors: Not overly complex, cinnamon, vanilla, orange citrus, light nutmeg notes.
Finish: Medium finish, some whiskey notes as it rests on your tongue.
The reposado is not as agave-forward as I would personally like it to be. It leans toward the whiskey drinker, who I think would appreciate the flavor profile. It is more than acceptable for sipping neat or on the rocks, and would do very well in a cocktail.
