Oswaldo González is a sixth-generation agave farmer and master distiller for Tequila Bramido. His ancestors have been crafting products such as belts, hats, and small tool bags from agave fibers since 1869.
In June of 2024, Oswaldo's dad decided to take the family cultural heritage to the next level and founded the distillery Casa Tequilera Joselito (NOM 1675) in Tizapán el Alto, Jalisco. Since then, Oswaldo has been perfecting his craft, producing Tequila Bramido.
Bramido is the first tequila made exclusively with agave from the Lago de Chapala region (Lake Chapala, Jalisco), while using water sourced from a natural spring flowing out of the nearby Sierra del Tigre mountains.
Their high-proof blanco comes in at 49% ABV. It is cooked in stone brick ovens before getting crushed by tahona. Open-air fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks that benefit from spontaneous wild yeast (which Oswaldo says contributes toward their unique tequila profile), then distilled in copper pots.
Nose: Minerality, floral, some citrus/grapefruit notes, sweet cooked agave, pepper, anise, some vegetal notes (raw green pepper), and cinnamon
Palate: Sweet cooked agave, minerality, citrus, mint, cinnamon, and pepper
Finish: Long, sweet and spicy
I was pleasantly surprised by this tequila. As a new distillery, they exceeded my expectations. This expression is beautifully complex, though I recommend letting it sit for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the heat to dissipate and reveal more flavors.
Bramido is very enjoyable and makes you want to go back for more. Happy sipping!
