El Tesoro translates as “the treasure,” and their reposado is one of my go-tos for making cocktails or as an everyday sipper.
El Tesoro is fairly unique in that it distills to proof rather than diluting with water after distillation for all its expressions.
El Tesoro produces a benchmark for traditionally made tequila: horno cooked, tahano crushed, wood-fermented with fibers, and copper distillation, checking all the boxes for me.
It’s rested at least six months in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, creating a beautifully balanced reposado.
Aromas: Cooked agave, baking spices, and light citrus notes.
Flavors: A nice, lightly sweet mouthfeel. Very light barrel notes dance on your tongue followed by vanilla sweetness, cinnamon, and an orange citrus note.
Finish: All the flavors converge, making this a very balanced tequila, leaving a pleasing long finish.
This is such an easy sipper. El Tesoro Reposado is one of the standards in the world of tequila. Balanced, agave-forward, with great barrel notes that will not overpower your palate.
