Carreta de Oro Blanco

Carreta de Oro is a Mexican-owned tequila brand with roots that go directly back to the people growing the agave.

Founded in 2004 by a group of 40 agave farmers, the brand sources its agave from more than 80 local farms that, according to Carreta de Oro, grow without the use of chemical fertilizers.

After disappearing from the market for a period, the brand was revived under new ownership, given a redesigned bottle, and is beginning to make an impression within the tequila-drinking community.

Today, Carreta de Oro is overseen by co-founders Samuel De la Cerda and Ronak Patel, along with Master Distiller Juan Carlos Silva Rodriguez. The tequila is produced at NOM 1551 in Juanacatlán, Jalisco, an interesting location that sits between the regions we commonly refer to as the Tequila Valley and Los Altos.

The blanco uses stone-oven-cooked Blue Weber agave and roller-mill extraction, producing a profile that leans into the earthy and mineral side of agave.

On the nose, cooked agave leads with noticeable earthiness, minerality and fresh vegetal notes, followed by a subtle vanilla-like sweetness.

The palate brings natural agave sweetness balanced by green vegetal flavors, mineral notes, and cooked agave. A rustic quality gives the tequila plenty of personality without becoming overly aggressive.

The finish is medium in length and remains nicely agave-forward, with lingering minerality and a gentle spice reminiscent of allspice.

Carreta de Oro Blanco is a solid everyday sipper at an approachable price. For tequila drinkers who favor cooked agave, earthiness, vegetal notes, and minerality over an overly sweet profile, it delivers an impressive combination of character and value.
