Carreta de Oro is a Mexican-owned brand founded in 2004 by 40 agave farmers. It sources agave from more than 80 local farms that use no chemicals or fertilizers.

Carreta de Oro is overseen by co-founders Samuel De la Cerda and Ronak Patel, along with master distiller Juan Carlos Silva Rodriguez.

With new ownership and a redesigned bottle, they are starting to make an impression on our tequila-drinking community.

I think it’s important to recognize the community behind Carreta de Oro and its commitment to excellence. Their añejo was awarded Double Gold in the 2026 Agavos Awards with an impressive 91 pts.

Aroma: Cinnamon, pepper, spice, orange zest, and light agave notes.

Flavor: Light oak notes of caramel and vanilla, baking spice, dried fruit, with the agave influence still showing through.

Finish: Medium to long, showing a balance between the agave and the barrel.

This añejo is rested for an extensive 18 months but remains slightly agave-forward. It is a good starting point for any bourbon or whiskey drinker.
