How earthy can a blanco get?
If that’s a question you’ve ever asked yourself, then maybe you should open a bottle of Brahman Blanco.
Co-owned by brothers Pedro, Omar, and Miguel Contas, Brahman is a relatively new tequila brand that began production at NOM 1624 in 2024.
Born and/or raised in Magdalena, Jalisco, about 20 minutes from Tequila, these brothers created Brahman as a hobby and out of their love for tequila.
They probably didn’t realize they were going to create something that I find so unique.
Currently, Brahman is sold throughout Los Angeles, but bottles can also be shipped. Right now, the brand only has a blanco, but I can imagine what an aged expression would taste like.
The bottled blanco is created using a blend of different blancos that incorporate multiple production methods, including autoclave and brick-oven cooking, roller mill and tahona extraction.
And I can taste every bit of that complexity.
Nose: Raw and lightly sweet cooked agave, minerality, lime, with almost no ethanol notes.
Palate: Cannabis, olive brine, green vegetal notes, pickled vegetables, cooked agave, and earthy citrus.
Finish: Very viscous, earthy, with dirt-like minerality and a long, lingering finish.
This is one of those brands I would keep an eye on. It’s new, different, and it isn’t trying to taste like every other blanco on the shelf.
If you’re someone who enjoys earthy, vegetal, mineral-driven tequila, Brahman Blanco is definitely one to give a chance.
