Augusto Tequila was created by three founders with a simple goal: to produce a tequila they would genuinely enjoy drinking and proudly share with others.

Rather than following the conventional barrel-aging path for tequila, the brand chose to build its identity around exclusive sherry-cask maturation.

This approach distinguishes Augusto from much of the tequila industry, where bourbon barrels remain the preferred choice for aging. By committing entirely to sherry casks, the founders sought to create a bridge between two established traditions: Mexican tequila and Spanish sherry.

The brand's dual heritage extends beyond the liquid itself. The name Augusto suggests greatness or magnificence in Spanish, while also carrying a more relaxed and comfortable meaning in Mexico, reflecting the understated elegance the founders hope to convey.

That philosophy is also evident in the bottle design.

Originally developed by a Scottish design agency and later refined in-house over several months, the bottle incorporates functional elements, including a removable metal collar and stopper that can be repurposed as a cigar holder after the bottle is empty.

The design is protected by patents in multiple countries and reflects Augusto's commitment to combining practicality with refined presentation.

Joven is an officially recognized class of tequila, representing a blend of blanco tequila with one or more other classes. In the case of Augusto Joven, we’ve got a blend of its blanco and reposados rested in Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks from González Byass.

This Joven has a rich, layered nose that really showcases the sherry casks. It opens with sweet oak and cooked agave, followed by subtle notes of cherry cola and raisin. Bright citrus and ripe berries bring a touch of freshness, while cantaloupe, vanilla, and hot honey round out the profile with a soft sweetness.

Taste-wise, the Spanish sherry-cask aging stands out: notes of honey, oak, leather, green tea, agave, cordial cherry, pepper, fresh-cut flowers, and baking spices.

This has a viscous mouthfeel, which provides a long finish with notes of pepper, cinnamon candy, oak, and dark dried fruits.

Even though this is a joven, it drinks like a heavily aged reposado or lightly aged añejo but is balanced enough to still find the agave. It’s very nice, especially for those who like barrel influence.
