ArteNOM is a brand that highlights master distillers from different NOMs/distilleries.

Those master distillers showcase their craft through a single expression of their selection from each distillery/NOM.

ArteNOM Selección de 1579 is a classic blanco made by master distiller Felipe Camarena at El Pandillo (NOM 1579).

Hopefully you know about Felipe Camarena and how he uniquely uses three different water sources to produce his various tequilas.

This blanco uses a blend of 50% rainwater and 50% deep-well water and is aerated before bottling at 40.7% ABV (81.4 proof).

The aromas coming from my glass are bright with a lot of minerality, salinity, bright green vegetal agave, citrus zest, wet red clay, poblano peppers, and white pepper. It’s a fun symphony of aromas that I personally enjoy.

I taste minerals and brine up front, but the natural sweetness of cooked agave quickly follows. The citrus zest has an oily presence, and the white pepper on the nose turns into a black-pepper taste on the palate.

Earthy poblano peppers appear, and the alcohol brings a nice tingle that leads to a slightly dry finish.

Felipe Camarena produces excellent tequila for a few brands, but this is different. ArteNOM isn’t his brand; he makes this tequila for ArteNOM to highlight his craft. It’s the only tequila from NOM 1579 currently made with a 50/50 blend of rainwater and well water, and it was the first tequila Felipe made using aeration.
