ArteNOM Selección tequilas highlight the unique distillery and distiller that produced each offering, often featuring what they do best. ArteNOM 1146 is a beautifully aged añejo created by master distiller Enrique Fonseca at Casa Tequileña (NOM 1146) in Tequila, Jalisco.

This añejo is unique in several ways.

First, they use a Mendoza wine yeast strain in stainless steel tanks. They then age for a minimum of 14 months in used French Cabernet Franc wine barrels. The spirit is finished for an additional 14+ months in toasted American white oak barrels previously used for Canadian whiskey or Tennessee rye.

Bottling now takes place at 41.3% ABV - 82.6 proof, offering just a little extra. It has a dark amber color, strong legs and tears running down the glass, coating the glass nicely.

The aromas are dark too, with hints of cacao, leather, ripe dark red fruits, and some sweetness from the French oak barrels.

There are rich flavors of barrel spices from the French and American oak. The sweetness is akin to the caramelized sugar atop crème brûlée.

A dry leather note arrives before the black pepper finish.

Overall, ArteNOM 1146 is a full-flavored, slightly barrel-heavy Añejo. This is a nice sipping tequila for a cool night, with a cigar, or in an añejo Old Fashioned.
