A great margarita does not need a flashy bottle or a hundred-dollar pour.
It needs a blanco with enough agave character to push through citrus and sweetener, clean enough to finish bright, and priced so a Tuesday night batch does not feel reckless.
The 26 bottles below clear all three bars.
Every one is additive-free, as far as we know.
Each is available online for $45 or less.
Each of them carries enough flavor to stand up to lime and salt without leaning into the lactic, buttery notes that can make for an awkward margarita.
(we like buttery tequilas, just not for margaritas)
The 26 Great Blanco Tequilas for Margaritas
Why These 26 Blanco Tequila for Margaritas
Three filters shaped the list. First, price: everything lands at $45 or less, which keeps your tequila pricing at less than $3 per margarita.
Second, nothing on this list leans on glycerin or syrup to round its edges, so what the agave actually tastes like is what reaches the glass.
The result is a working guide. Some of these are Highlands expressions with bright citrus and a softer entry. Some come out of the valley with pepper and earth that cut through a heavier mix.
How to Use the List
Pick a bottle that fits the drink. A classic margarita with fresh lime and a touch of agave syrup rewards Highlands expressions like El Bandido Yankee, Suerte, or Zumbador. A spicier or bolder recipe, maybe with jalapeño and/or triple sec, may be best with Valley character like Arette, Authentico, or Nosotros.
The bottles above are organized alphabetically, not ranked. Any one of them will make a margarita the bar across the street would charge $16 for.
