Distilled at Tequila El Tepozán (NOM 1584) under master distiller Carlos Padilla, Tepozán continues to preserve traditional tequila-making methods while blending in modern precision. Produced in the town of San Julián, this expression reflects a strong connection to the Highlands region.
Fermented with natural and wild yeasts and made using volcanic-filtered well water, this Añejo is aged for 14 months in Kentucky white oak barrels.
Nose: On the nose, you get a warm wave of toffee, cinnamon, oak, and chocolate, layered with lactic butter, scotch-like vanilla, honey, and a touch of minerality. There’s a noticeable heat up front. These notes are definitely driven by the 14 months in barrels.
Palate: The palate brings cooked agave forward, followed by toasted wood, vanilla, and light vegetal notes. A bit of heat lingers on the back end, but it stays balanced. A very light finish with not much lingering.
This is a great entry point into añejo for anyone transitioning from reposado. It leans lighter than most añejos while still delivering those classic aged characteristics.
Overall, this is a bottle definitely worth trying. The price feels aligned with what’s in the bottle, as well.
