Suerte is one of the few single-brand distilleries in Mexico, and also one of the few that use a tahona to crush 100% of their agave.
The story about how Suerte became a brand is a rollicking tale in itself, and certainly underscores the appropriateness of the brand name, which means “luck” in Spanish.
The tequila and now the distillery (Tequilera Simbolo - NOM 1530) is located in San Francisco de Assis in the Highlands of Jalisco. The distillery is co-owned by brand founders Laurence Spiewak and Lance Sokol, and master distiller Pedro Hernandez Barba whose family formerly owned and ran the distillery.
This high-proof Blanco tequila is bottled at still-strength, meaning no water is added after distillation, giving it maximum flavor and impact.
On the nose I get cooked agave with a vegetal profile. I detect honey, herbal elements, such as mint, clove and an mineral earthiness.
The palate gives me cooked agave, roasted peanuts and some vegetal notes. Not as much as on the nose, however. I also get pepper, citrus, grassy notes with some minerality.
