One of the reasons I believe this is such a strong reposado is the attention given to the agave from start to finish. It genuinely translates in the glass.
Made at NOM 1360 near the town of Tequila, this beautifully crafted brand uses agaves from the Highlands, and the flavor and aroma are signature Los Altos.
With brand founder Peter Kelly and co-founder and agavero Omar Martinez each bringing their own input and ideas, they’ve created a tequila that’s clearly here to stay. Pedro Furtivo “Sneaky Pete” may be a new brand, and distributed primarily in the southeast USA currently, but it has already made a serious name for itself. Honestly, it’s one of the best—if not the best—tequilas coming out of this distillery.
On the nose: white pepper, light minerality, raw agave, soft orange citrus, and a subtle hint of cinnamon.
On the palate: an initial light sense of heat that quickly fades, revealing cooked agave and oak, followed by gentle sweetness toward the back think honeyed notes. Different than other American oak reposados due to the use of ex-Bordeaux wine barrels, in addition to ex-bourbon barrels.
Finish: light yet slightly viscous, leaving you wanting another sip, with lingering touches of vanilla.
Quality reposados like this are here to stay. I would absolutely repurchase, and every time I’ve recommended it, it’s been a hit.
