Lost Lore Valley Blanco tequila, from NOM 1414, is a limited production of approximately 2000 bottles, and differs from their regular blanco in the most fundamental of ways….where the agave is sourced.
Typically, Lost Lore uses agave from The Highlands, as the tequila is produced in Arandas, in the same region.
But this special valley blanco is a tribute; a way of bringing the family legacy forward. The family of brand co-founder Arturo Lamas made tequila in the valley, with valley agave, for many years. The flavor profile of this release is designed to mimic what was produced over a century ago by Arturo’s great grandfather, Nicolás.
The difference between the regular blanco and this special edition are noticeable and profound.
Nose: The aroma is layered and complex, with heavy vegetal aromas typical of Valley agave. It also includes sweet cooked agave, butter, brine/salt, black pepper, minerals, and a light bit of anise.
Palate: On the palate, those same notes carry through, with the vegetal character, sweet cooked agave, brine/salt, butter and minerality becoming even more pronounced. Produced at 48% ABV, this blanco has a lot of flavor, as expected.
Finish: The finish definitely lingers leaving you wanting more because of the balanced profile from the cooked agave, vegetal and minerality.
Definitely a blanco to consider, and a fascinating opportunity for a side-by-side tasting with other Lost Lore blanco releases.
