The G4 108 is like tequila concentrated. Made by Felipe Camarena at El Pandillo in Los Altos, this relatively new still-strength blanco is loaded with sweet cooked agave and black pepper notes. Created with 50% rain water and 50% spring water.
Note this is the "regular" G4 108, not the XM edition, which was partially fermented in wood. This one definitely presents as an overproof tequila, with a cinnamon spicy burn that is by no means objectionable, but very much noticeable.
A somewhat muted aroma for such a high ABV, this is refined, almost elegant, for a still-strength tequila. I find the nose to have more minerality than most from this distillery, but it lacks the secondary and tertiary notes of a few of the high-proof blancos on the market currently.
Flavor profile is signature G4 with black pepper and earthiness on top, with a little bit of citrus and herbaceousness underneath. Overall this is an excellent blanco. Given that it costs for 108-proof what many good blancos charge for their regular proof, G4 108 is definitely one of the best values in overproof tequila today.
