El Mexicano Tequila is produced in the Highlands by the Bañuelos family, original founders of Cazadores, at Tequilas El Mexicano (NOM 1588) in Arandas, Jalisco. It’s a brand I’ve recommended before because of its great price point.

This was my first time trying El Mexicano Añejo, and it opens with warm, inviting aromas of baking spices, toasted almonds, candied yams, oak, and a touch of warm orange.

On the palate, the citrus comes through with soft orange notes, followed by dried apple and a gentle sweetness on the finish that reminds me of cooked sweet potatoes.

The finish has a touch of warmth and lingers a bit. While it softens toward the end rather than building intensity, it still leaves behind pleasant notes that tie back to the aromas.

Overall, this is a warm, approachable añejo at an unbeatable price point of around $50 MSRP. I think it would also make a great spirit-forward cocktail, like an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Overall, a really pleasant añejo.
