Dos Artes means “two pieces of art”. For this tequila brand, one piece of art is inside the bottle and the other the bottle itself.
Indeed, it is one of the most beautiful regularly available tequila bottles around, with a mosaic design making it a very attractive addition to a home bar. The bottle is handmade ceramic and individually painted making each bottle a unique piece of artwork.
Created by Alvaro Molina with Leon Bañuelos serving as master distiller, this brand has been a favorite among tequila drinkers for quite some time. It offers a sweet, approachable profile, and while I cannot confirm whether it is additive-free, I can say it is exceptionally easy to drink for someone just getting into tequila.
This Reserva Especial is aged between 18 – 22 months in a combination of American and French oak creating a real depth of flavor within the barrel spices.
On the nose, I find notes of vanilla, brown sugar, butterscotch, honey, dried fruit, leather, and cooked agave.
On the palate, warmer and sweeter notes emerge, including butterscotch, vanilla, leather, and butter. Very sweet on the palate.
On the finish, whisky notes moved to the forefront.
While I do not believe this is for the seasoned tequila drinker, due to the heavy sweetness, I do believe someone new to tequila (a whisky or bourbon drinker perhaps) would find this very enjoyable and come back for more.
