Tequila Curado is one of the more unusual bottles in the tequila world. It starts with a traditional 100% Blue Weber blanco distilled by Carlos Camarena, but after distillation it’s infused with cooked agave.
Inspired by the work of tequila ambassador Tomas Estes, the project explores how different agaves influence flavor inside a tequila framework. Roasted agave from regions like Oaxaca and Michoacán is steeped in the spirit, almost like a tea bag, adding depth and character. The result is a tequila that bridges the worlds of tequila and mezcal while highlighting the diversity of agave.
This particular version is made with Cupreata, an agave species typically used in Mezcal.
Nose - Lots of agave, cinnamon, honey, earth. Then minerals, citrus, baking spices, smoke, white pepper and light spearmint.
Taste - Strong agave, a warm cinnamon and pepper combo start off strong. Honey, dried fruits, earth, baking spices, citrus and apple follow the initial warm intro.
Finish - Floral notes, cherry, smoke white pepper and hint of jalapeño to end the show. A nice viscous mouthfeel with a fairly long finish.
This is a great representation of two different agaves coming together in different ways to make a unique tequila. Curado can be somewhat difficult to find, but we provide a link to purchase below, and it's worth having in your collection because no other brand has made this way.
