Located in El Arenal “the gateway to agave” Cascahuín is loosely translated to “Mountain of Light” or the one I like most: “Party on the Hill”!
The Cascahuín square bottle reposado has been kicked up a notch to 84 proof, which I think makes a big difference in flavor for this reposado. Absolutely delicious.
Barrel rested 6-8 months in used American white oak bourbon barrels. This reposado is so underrated, perhaps unsurprising given the widespread acclaim of the high proof blancos from this brand (Plata 48, Tahona, et al).
This reposado has a light hue of yellow and gold.
Aromas: Subtle notes of vanilla, caramel and light barrel notes. Such a great nose, stone fruit including apricot. Earthy and herbal also.
Flavor Profile: A blast of sugar, and that sweet cooked agave shines. Light caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, butter and honey, along with some cooking spices. Such an easy sipper.
Finish: Long and enjoyable finish that lingers, leaving a pleasing taste of sweet cooked agave with some nice barrel notes.
