I love the minerality that shines through in Cascahuín expressions!
Tequila Cascahuín (NOM 1123) is a historic, family-owned distillery in El Arenal, Jalisco. Founded in 1904 by the Rosales family, it grew from their early work farming Blue Weber agave into a tequila-production operation.
Cascahuín is currently led by master distiller Salvador "Chava" Rosales Trejo. The distillery is celebrated worldwide for producing some of the finest tequilas.
The name "Cascahuín" stems from a pre-Hispanic root that can be interpreted as "Hill of Light" (Cerro de Luz) or celebration on the hill. It is inspired by a local mountain whose mineral deposits are said to attract lightning.
The distillery is situated in El Arenal, known as the gateway to the Valles region of Jalisco. Valley-grown agave typically yields a profile characterized by earthy, herbaceous, and robust peppery notes.
On the nose, I get minerality, agave, citrus, and pepper.
The palate follows the nose, with agave, minerality, citrus, and pepper, plus additional notes of grass and anise.
The finish delivers a punch of anise that into spicy pepper and lingers briefly.
This is THE benchmark blanco for me! It’s the tequila of choice for my home-bar cocktails, and it’s great for sipping too. This delivers one of my favorite profiles: clean, with minerality, agave, citrus, and pepper!
Bonus: Mix this 50/50 with Cascahuín Tahona Blanco. It’s AMAZING!
Happy Sipping!
