Named for the famous, hairless dog breed that is the “official dog of Mexico” Xoloitzcuintle (sholo-eats-KWIN-tlee) is a newer craft tequila brand that uses all estate-grown agave and offers high-proof expressions throughout their lineup.
This is their first-ever joven. A joven is any blanco tequila with any aged tequilas blended into it.
In this joven, rustic aromatics lead the nose, with dried fruit up front, followed by soft jasmine and a hint of cantaloupe. This is a blend of 80% Plata (blanco), 10% Reposado, and 10% Añejo, bottled at 48% ABV. This is a tequila connoisseur’s dream that continues to open up in the glass.
The finish is long and lingering, layered with dried fruit, gentle vanilla, subtle minerality, orange blossom, and a touch of honey.
Thick and viscous on the palate, it delivers a noticeable warmth, but the heat is softened as the flavors slowly unfold. Built for slow sipping, this is a spirit that rewards patience, the softness settles in, the flavors linger, and it feels perfectly suited for a cold night.
