Alto Canto reposado was a pleasant surprise.
I had the opportunity to visit the distillery this summer, located at an impressive 9,000 feet above sea level—the highest elevation in tequila production—and you can truly taste that altitude in the spirit’s character.
Surrounded by avocado fields, the distillery uses tahona-crushed fibers during both fermentation and distillation, with a two-to-three-day fermentation that gives each batch its own distinct flavor.
I first discovered Alto Canto through their high-proof blanco, but months later, tasting the reposado left me genuinely impressed.
The nose offers stone fruit, dried fruit, orange zest, and delicate floral notes, with a subtle malolactic nuance.
On the palate, those aromas expand beautifully—orange and dried fruit, balanced spice, and a touch of viscosity on the finish.
Rested four months in new oak, this reposado stands out for its individuality. It’s one I love sipping—and gifting.
