Alquimia Blanco tequila is made at NOM 1468 in Arandas in The Highlands. The same place where the popular LALO tequila is made.

Alquimia is one of those brands that deserves way more recognition than it gets. Made from single-estate, family grown agaves, it stays true to a clean, traditional approach.

What purists will appreciate most about this tequila is that after distillation, it goes straight into the bottle. No filtration or aeration or resting.

Alquimia is also one of the few certified organic tequilas that are also additive-free.

Aromas: An immense freshness right away. Bright and lively. I get green pear, black pepper, and fully cooked agave at the core. There’s also a mix of pineapple-like citrus and soft floral notes. It’s expressive without being harsh or aggressive.

Palate: Cooked agave leads the way. There’s a noticeable thread of anise layered with light vanilla sweetness. Subtle florals linger in the background, along with a gentle touch of cinnamon. It’s balanced and clean, with enough complexity to keep you interested.

Finish: Exceptionally soft, with practically no heat. It’s so smooth you might almost mistake it for water at first sip. Toward the end, minerality and citrus begin to show themselves.

Notes of orange peel, both bitter and sweet, linger nicely.

If I spot this bottle in a shop, I’m grabbing it. It’s a fantastic sipper on its own, but it also doubles beautifully as a cocktail base. At under $50, it’s a great value.
